Simple Snack Plate

Jump to Recipe

There is something lovely about a plate filled with a few good things.

Aged cheese, crisp crackers, briny green olives, sweet cherry tomatoes, crunchy nuts, and a little dish of flaky sea salt. Nothing particularly complicated, nothing that requires a recipe—just a handful of ingredients that come together to make something delicious.

I love the idea that we don’t have to wait for a special occasion to set out something beautiful. An ordinary afternoon can be reason enough. A quiet moment between projects, a little something to enjoy while catching up with a friend, or an impromptu gathering around the kitchen counter.

It’s not about making more work for ourselves. It’s about making room for more enjoyment.

The beauty of a snack plate is its flexibility. Start with a cheese you love, add crackers or toasted bread, tuck in something fresh, and finish with a handful of nuts or olives. Use what you have on hand. Add a small bowl of honey, a favorite spread, or a few seasonal fruits if you like.

There are no rules to follow, and no need to make a trip to the grocery store just to pull it together.

I think there’s a little wisdom in that approach to life, too. As we move into a new chapter, perhaps we can become more intentional about what we bring to the table—not just the food, but the experiences, friendships, and small pleasures that make our days richer.

Sometimes hospitality begins with an elaborate dinner. Sometimes it begins with a plate of cheese and crackers and the invitation to sit down for a while.

And sometimes, the person we need to invite to the table is ourselves.

So gather a few good things, make yourself a little plate, and take a moment to savor what’s already here.
